Owners of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines have hit out at Whirlpool, the parent company, after it announced a recall for more than half a million devices and urged people not to use them over Christmas.
It is the second time this year the firm has had to recall more than 500,000 goods after a similar issue with its tumble dryers.
Customers have contacted this newspaper to voice their frustration. Many will be left with no way to wash their clothes over the festive period.
Davina Peplow, a retired pensioner from Lincoln, is housebound due to her rheumatoid arthritis and various other health issues.n She has been left with a sense of déjà vu after the latest recall – her tumble dryer was recalled earlier in the year.
“It’s ridiculous. It’s disgusting. They have a fire hazard in people’s homes and are telling people to wait until after Christmas. They can’t expect people to wait,” she said.
